Management Practices

Here at Rolling Meadows Farm, BIO-SECURITY and herd health have always been of utmost importance. For the past several  years, We have had in place bio-security measures that prevent diseases from being brought onto our farm from outside sources.  With the aid of our veterinarian, a herd vaccination program was established to control any disease possible.

The Rolling  Meadows Farm foundation breeding herd was assembled by purchases from three Kiko Meat Goat breeders, thus limiting communicable disease contamination of   our foundation herd.  Since 2006, Rolling Meadows Farms has been a closed herd with no outside animals added since that date.

With the combined effectiveness of our management practices and vaccination programs, we have had excellent herd health over the years, with many of our original foundation animals living and producing well into their teens. in 2006, again with the assistance of our veterinarian, we instituted a vaccination program for Caseous Lymphadenitis  thereby insuring no Rolling Meadows animal would manifest the insidious CL abscesses. in 2008, our veterinarian developed an ongoing program  for the testing of Johne's Disease. Our testing relies on the growth of fecal cultures and fortunately, after many culture tests we have never had a Rolling Meadows Farm  animal test positive. Rolling Meadows Farm is also one of only two Kiko  Meat Goat herds  in the  United States to be able to ship females internationally. Rolling Meadows Farm is presently  pursuing certification as a scrapies free herd, being in the sixth year of a seven year process.

As a result of our bio-security and health maintenance program, Rolling Meadows Farm has been a government approved exporter of live breeding stock to several international countries, including Canada for a number of years. No Rolling Meadows farm animal has ever failed any required health exam during any of  our numerous exports of breeding stock.
